laurie & jo are two of the main characters in louisa may alcott's little women series. so why did i build this fanlisting for them? ok, i'll explain. if you know me, you'll know that little women and it sequels are my favorite books ever. i must've read them like 40 times each already. and this book taught me my first literary lesson: that things don't always go the "obvious" way.

imagine me some 11 years ago, reading my copy of little women for the very first time. i definitely loved the book, and i sighed like the silly little girl that i was at the possibility of a romance between these two characters, jo & laurie. they were perfect for each other: they were neighbors and best friends, they were always together, they really complemented each other, they always had fun and they really cared about each other. i was completely sure that the last chapter of the novel would be about their wedding.

now imagine my reaction when i found out they DID NOT end up together.

my whole world fell apart!

i couldn't believe it. you'll think i'm too extreme, but i felt really bad for a really long time. i felt cheated: mrs. alcott had been lying to me the whole time! it just wasn't fair. i felt so dissapointed. and i re-read the book again, and again, and again, with the hope that maybe the ending would be different some day. in fact, i still re-read it every time i can, but alas, the ending's still the same >.<

so what's my point? my point is that even now i've gotten over the heartbreak (well, actually i just act like i'm over it, but i'm still crying inside... ;_;), and even if i do love the sequels, and with them the children that were NOT born from this couple, i still think this relationship is the best of them all. this was one of the fanlistings i'd KILL FOR, and i finally got it, so now i can die happily! ^^
