about mousse_____

mousse is a character from the anime/manga series ranma 1/2, written by rumiko takahashi. the series deals with a bunch of people who have fallen into these cursed springs called jusenkyo, and so every time they touch cold water, they turn into the animal/thing that drowned in the spring they fell into. mousse is a chinese guy, from a tribe of matriarchal amazon warriors. he arrived in nerima, the place where the whole ranma 1/2 continuity takes place, after following shampoo, a fellow amazon and the girl he's hopelessly in love with since they were babies, who had moved there some time before. he's a master of combat with concealed weapons, and he's pretty strong overall. mousse has a bunch of problems, you see, because first, his beloved shampoo doesn't love him-- she's in love with ranma, the main character, and even if she wasn't, she's much more of a bully to poor mousse than anything else and she never particularly shows signs of returning his feelings. mousse will not let that deter him, though! he'll keep trying to win her affections, trying just about ANYTHING to show her he's the strongest fighter and get her to love him. his second problem is a bit more matter of fact: his jusenkyo curse. mousse turns into a duck everytime he's doused with cold water. not terribly impressive, eh? add to this the fact that his eyesight sucks; the poor guy is so blind that he can't distinguish shampoo's silhouette from a LAMP POST, it's THAT bad. put all of this together and you get probably the most pathetic character in the whole ranma universe... but that is why we love him, isn't it? through all their misadventures we really learn to see what an awesome person he is, even if he does have the most rotten luck. then again, bad luck is almost a constant in ranma 1/2...
